After hosting the world release of Pete and Cathy Seghesio's brand new San Lorenzo and Journeyman Wineries here over a decade ago, we're thrilled to host a return dinner with these stunning old-vine wines! Many of you have met Pete and Cathy before, either here at a winemaker dinner when he was CEO of Seghesio Winery years ago, or on one of our wine tours to Sonoma. His family owned Seghesio Winery for generations but Pete and the rest of his extended family decided it was finally time to sell the iconic winery back in 2011. The minute his non-compete clause was up, he starting releasing his own ultra-premium wines under the new San Lorenzo and Journeyman labels. He produces Burgundian varietals (Chardonnay and Pinot Noir) under the Journeyman label, and old vine reds under the San Lorenzo label. These are some serious wines!

The namesake of the winery is the San Lorenzo vineyard that was planted by Pete's great-grandfather in the 1890’s ... which means that many of the grapes in his red wines are coming from 130+ year old vines. Pete and Cathy built their home on the hilltop overlooking this beautiful vineyard complete with a fully operational winery in their sprawling basement. Those of you who went on our Napa/Sonoma tours back in 2013 (yikes, has it been that long?!) will have fond memories of the tractor ride through the vineyard with Pete's Uncle Freddy at the wheel and then enjoying an amazing lunch prepared by cousin Gia at their home afterwards.

We hope you'll be able to join us for this long-awaited Journeyman/San Lorenzo winemaker dinner. Both Pete and Cathy will be here in person to host this dinner.

RESPOND WITH THIS INFO

1. your cell number and best time to call so we can call you to update your credit card info

2. how many people are in your party, and

3. answers to the HEAD’S UP questions in the paragraph below if you’re a party of 1 or 2.

HEAD’S UP

We have a very limited number of tables for couples who want to sit by themselves so please let us know if you’re willing to sit at long communal tables (“Last Supper” style) as that will greatly increase your chances of getting in. (Yes, we understand that this is a Valentine’s dinner and that most folks will want a private table and, yes, we will do our best to accommodate that but at some point we max out on private tables!) We also have a firepit table for two (https://www.winevaultbistro.com/fire-pit) available so let us know if you’re OK with that table if you want to sit by yourselves. Also, please consider inviting another couple or two to join you as if you’re a party of four or six there won’t be a problem getting your own table.

LOCATION & PHONE

Wine Vault & Bistro is located in the heart of San Diego between Little Italy and Old Town at 3731-A India Street on the upstairs terrace. Follow the black handrail up the stairs from the sidewalk to our front door. Our phone number is (619) 295-3939.

PARKING

Metered and non-metered on-street parking is usually available within a 3-block radius. Try to find non-metered parking as the new meters are now enforced seven days a day until 8:00PM yet still only allow a maximum of two hours. You can also park in the free lot behind Shakespeare Pub two doors down, but do not park in El Indio's lot unless you want your car towed! If you can’t find parking next to the restaurant, there’s usually parking on the side streets behind the restaurant, on San Diego Avenue one block in front of the restaurant and on the adjacent side streets just past the Chevron station across Washington Street. If you plan to drive here make sure to allow yourself plenty of time to find a parking space but ideally use a rideshare app like Uber or Lyft so you don’t have to deal with it.

WINE NOTES & BOTTLE PRICES

2024 Journeyman Rose ~ $26

(Sonoma County) 100% Grenache. Fruit is gently rolled in the press for two hours for minimal color extraction, then fermented in stainless steel at 50°F for 60–70 days. Naturally settled and bottled the following February. Profile: Strawberry, pink grapefruit, raspberry, rose petal, hibiscus.

2024 Journeyman Chardonnay ~ $44

(Russian River Valley) Night-harvested and pressed at sunrise, with juice and solids fermented together in barrel. Estate North Slope blocks (Old Wente & Hyde) are farmed at low yields for concentration. Native fermentation with full solids builds texture; bâtonnage is frequent early, then reduced through aging. No SO₂ until after malolactic. After aging, the wine is blended, settled up to four months, bottled in January, and released April 1. Profile: Orchard fruit, mineral tension, lemon icebox pie creaminess.

2024 Journeyman Pinot Noir ~ $48

(Russian River Valley) Blend of Martinelli vineyards: Calera (Zio Tony) and 777 (Bondi). Cold-soaked five days with frequent pump-overs, then reduced through fermentation. Pressed dry to barrel for malolactic. Aged in François Frères oak (33% new, 33% once-, 33% twice-filled). Profile: Black cherry, Bing cherry, pomegranate, with a hint of saltwater taffy.

2024 San Lorenzo “Red Pig” Malbec ~ $58

(Alexander Valley) Primarily Malbec (Zuccardi suitcase clone) with small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Verdot co-fermented for integration. Blend: 90% Malbec, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petite Verdot. Aged 16 months in 100% French oak. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. Profile: Dark plum, blackberry, and cocoa with a touch of violet and spice—lush, round, and seamlessly integrated.

2024 San Lorenzo “Rock Garden” Red ~ $42

(Alexander Valley) From steep estate blocks (23, 15, 16), primarily Padrone-clone Zinfandel. Night-harvested, destemmed, double sorted, and cold-soaked five days. Fermented in open-top tanks with controlled extraction over 17–18 days. Aged in French oak (33% new, 33% once-, 33% twice-filled). Profile: Blackberry, briar patch, and cracked pepper with layered dark fruit and a firm, structured finish.

THE FINE PRINT

Due to fluctuations of supply, we reserve the right to make substitutions of equal or greater value in case any of the wines or foods become unavailable. Please, ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY NO ONE UNDER THE AGE OF 21 ... even if your babysitter flakes out on you at the last minute!

Hope to see you here. Buon appetito and cheers!

Chris
