This one-day, in-person course offers six hours of guided instruction and concludes with the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines examination. Register by September 21 to receive your digital study guide by email before class. **Space is limited – early registration is recommended.

Lunch is not included. Students are welcome to bring their own or visit a nearby eatery.
What You’ll Learn
The course covers the main wine types and common grape varieties, wine service and storage, basic tasting technique, how to describe the aroma and flavor of wine, and the fundamentals of food and wine pairing.
The Exam
30 multiple-choice questions | 45 minutes. Most students pass without reading the study guide in advance — the exam draws from both class material and the guide, and the instructor does not teach directly from the guide.

Food & Wine Pairing Exercise
This hands-on exercise explores how salt, acidity, sweetness, spice, smoke, and fat interact with wine, using items such as smoked salmon, cheddar cheese, lemon, chili, salt, and shortbread. If you have allergies to any of these items, please email info@capitalwineschool.com before class.
