The Teacher Training Certification is the essential first step toward becoming a certified wine instructor. Offered through the National Wine School, this program forms the foundation of the Teacher Training Track — the pathway leading to the Certified Sommelier Instructor (CSI) credential.
This certification is designed for students who aspire to teach, lead, or communicate about wine at a professional level. Candidates should hold their core sommelier pin or, if needed, may complete the accelerated Core program offered the week prior. Whether your goal is to teach at the Wine School of Philadelphia, launch your own wine education business, or advance your career in the wine trade, this program builds the core skills that define great educators.
Students develop practical teaching abilities — including classroom management, public speaking, instructional design, and curriculum development — within the context of professional wine education. The emphasis is on translating advanced wine knowledge into instruction that is engaging, accurate, and memorable.
Graduates have gone on to teach at accredited wine schools, lead wine event companies, and direct education programs at wineries, importers, and distributors. Two current WSoP instructors began their careers in this very course, and dozens more now run thriving wine education businesses across the country.
This certification is a prerequisite for the Wine Event Instructor and Wine Instructor programs — the next stages of the Teacher Training Track. Successful candidates may later be invited to teach Quick Pour™ classes, mentor students, or join the WSoP faculty as part-time instructors.
