Jose Ramón Urtasun, (Madrid, 1976) is the owner of Remírez de Ganuza. With a background in Environmental Science, he ended up getting into wine almost by accident, when his family got involved in the business, but Bodegas Remírez de Ganuza ended up being his life project.

To this day, he is in charge of every detail at Remírez de Ganuza. He personally manages the commercial, marketing and production strategies with a small but strong and involved team. Among his priorities are to maintain the quality of the wines, keeping long ageing times in barrel and bottle, and not releasing wines to the market prematurely. Urtasun has also expanded the winery’s portfolio with very special labels that explore the future of modern Rioja in the face of climate change and ever-increasing terroir awareness.
