Join us for an afternoon exploring a side of Mexican spirits that many people never get to experience. When we think of Mexico, we usually think agave—Tequila, Mezcal, Raicilla, Bacanora. But Mexico’s spirits heritage is much broader, richer, and far more diverse. The country is home to micro-producers crafting world-class rum, sotol, whiskey and more, each tied deeply to their region’s terroir, traditions, and raw materials.
This class will be led by Arik Torren, founder of Lot001, a craft Mexican spirits importer. Arik has 35 years of industry experience, with the last 14 years as an importer and brand developer. He was one of the pioneers of mezcal in the US and a visionary of Mexican spirits beyond mezcal. He was the first to introduce the categories of Raicilla, Tutsi, Cucharilla, Palmilla, and Lechuguilla.
We’ll taste our way through three small producers who represent this new wave of Mexican craft distilling—innovators who honor tradition while pushing into new categories. Pelacañas Rum. Whiskey Maiz Nation. Parejo Sotol.
