Guy De Barjac Cornas

I enjoyed Barjac's Cornas for years. When he passed away some years ago, the estate disappeared. He had truly excellently sited vineyards. Can you find out who purchased his vineyards and If they make a selection from his original vineyards?
Answer From Expert Roger Bohmrich MW

Guy de Barjac was long considered one of the finest growers in Cornas. The last vintage with his name on the label may have been 1990, from information I have found. As early as the 1980s, his two small parcels of 3.8 acres were actually farmed in a sharecropping arrangement (which is quite common in France's wine regions) by Jean-Luc Colombo and Sylvain Bernard of Domaine de Fauterie in Saint-Peray. He was compensated with one third of the fruit, allowing him to continue vinifying his own selection. It is not clear - there are no available records in the public domain - who owns the two parcels at this point. For that, a search of the local registry would be necessary. In any case, there is no reason to expect that other growers would make the elegant, supple style which made de Barjac an exception in Cornas.
