Wine Tasting
Martin from Oz Wine Company joins us behind the tasting table once again to show some of the fantastic new wines we're excited to be working with here at the shop. Oz has a fantastic and eclectic portfolio with plenty of delicious wines from all over the world and we always end up learning something while sipping on great wines.
You'll be tasting these 5 wines below.
2023, Batard Langelier “Le Besson” Muscadet Sèvre & Maine, Loire, France
We’ve long been of the mindset that Muscadet is the wine that you should be drinking but aren’t. I mean, what’s not to love? This wine is certified organic, it shows remarkable aromatic finesse, with plenty of white fruit aromas, intense oyster shell minerality, and a suggestion of sea-spray zestiness that makes it incredibly refreshing.
2024, Ronchi di Cialla, Friulano, Friuli, Italy
The Ronchi di Cialla Ribolla Gialla shows a pale straw yellow color with fleeting green reflections in the glass. On the nose, it expresses freshness and energy; the aromas are elegant, with aromas of fresh baked bread, of apple orchards at dawn, ripe pears, and pretty white flowers. Fuller in texture with orchard fruit acidity, this wine marries well with an array of dishes.
2025, Luna Duna, “Naranjo” Orange Wine, Mendoza, Argentina
90% Moscatel, 10% Criolla Blanca from third generation, family farm/winery in San Martin, Argentina. All organically grown, dry-farmed grapes. Two weeks of skin contact during fermentation in neutral tanks = "orange wine". Mouthwateringly fresh, with floral/peachy accents that are fresh and high-toned, fruity without being sweet and very crowd pleasing.
2023, Valdibella, “Agape” Nerello Mascalese, Sicily, Italy
One of the oldest grapevines in Sicily, the Nerello Mascalese originates in the Mount Etna area and for a very long time it has been cultivated in the west of Sicily. Today it is the second most cultivated vine of the red grape, next to the Nero d’Avola. Violets, cherries, and candied fruit notes present in a beautifully balanced and elegant red that’s perfect for lighter fare or casual quaffing.
2021, Ostatu, Rioja Crianza, Rioja Alavesa, Spain
Bodegas Ostatu is a family winery located in the heart of the Basque Rioja Alavesa region, in the village of Samaniego. The Sáenz de Samaniego family has been farming in the area since the 16th century—for so many generations, in fact, that the family name and the village’s name are the same. The winery has been growing grapes for over 250 years. The Ostatu Crianza is an outstanding value and introduction to the terruño-driven wines of village-designated Rioja Alavesa. Primarily Tempranillo, this wine starts out with elegant aromas of blackberry, fig, and spice. On the palate, the wine is medium bodied, with soft structure, and more dark fruit and spice. Well balanced and delicious!
Price point for all bottles are $32 and below.
Beer Tasting
Éirinn go Brách! Brendan Behan, W.B, Yeats, Maureen O'Hara, and Gráinne Ní Mháille are just some of the famous folks to come from Éire, and tonight we'll be celebrating that quintessential Irish brew, the stout. Dark, delicious, with a long finish and a smooth palate, the dry Irish stout is one of the finest styles of beer to exist, and we have three different interpretations of it for you to try. So give them all a taste, and find the one that will have you saying "Póg mo thóin!"
Stout (Murphy's Brewing, Cork, IE, 4.0%)
A lighter, smoother, and less bitter competitor to Guinness, Murphy's is an excellent and classic Irish stout from a brewery that has been brewing since 1856. With a pleasant nuttiness and subtle coffee undertones, this is the way to go for the traditionalist, and doesn't feel as heavy as a pint of the black.
Sound Stout (Lone Pine Brewing x Lough Gill Brewing, Portland, ME and Sligo, IE, 5.1%)
A collaboration between Lone Pine and Lough Gill, Sound Stout uses imported Irish malts while Lone Pine makes sure to mirror the water chemistry of the Sligo-based brewery. Dry, light, and with hints of bittersweet chocolate, you'll get excellent flavors and aromas with this brew, and you might even want to finish the 4 pack in 1 sitting!
Dubliners (Export Stout, Lamplighter Brewing, Cambridge, MA, 6.6%)
Lamplighter's seasonal stout hits all the notes you expect from an export stout - higher strength, fuller bodied, with coffee and dark chocolate leading the charge, we had to make sure to order enough this year, since we sold out last year! Get this while you can, because once it's gone, it's gone until 2027.
Stop by, raise a glass, and bring a little Irish cheer to your weekend!
