Part of the joy I get in producing VINO POP events is bringing wineries of all sizes to our Orange County table. Cordant Winery, though small, punches above its weight class - famed critics like Robert Parker and Jeb Dunnick certainly agree.

The Taylor family has been producing wines in Paso Robles with fruit sourced from highly prized, sustainably-farmed vineyards from the Central Coast. Cordant focuses on curating Pinot Noir and Rhone varietal wines. Each vineyard for Cordant is hand selected based on its ability to express a unique location. The wines are made naturally, without an agenda, yet with close attention to detail.

I had the pleasure of trying their 2019 Grenache and immediately called Evan to ask a bunch of wine geeky questions because it was such a beautiful, rugged yet refined drinking experience. (I didn't know at the time that this Grenache had recently scored 95 by Robert Parker.)

Sourced from 3 vineyards in the Central Coast of California, these Pinot are fermented and aged individually, and then blended together showcasing the soils and maritime influence 

2019 Nelle Bedlam Red Blend

Retail $39 4.2 Vivino Rating

Red and black fruit character, graphite, Asian plum, blackberry, and wild raspberry with undertones of lavender and white rock minerality.

2019 Nelle Central Coast Grenache

Retail $49 95 points Robert Parker

The nose is full of ripe strawberry, fresh raspberry, lavender, white pepper, baking spices on the nose.

2019 Nelle Central Coast Syrah

Retail $52 95 points Robert Parker

Brambly black and blue fruits intermingled with black olive and salted plum, delivering an old-world charm.
