Father & Son: Joel & Morgan Twain Peterson, Once & Future, Bedrock Wine Co.

Please join us Wednesday, March 7th, any time between 4:30-7:30pm, when we welcome Joel Peterson and his son Morgan Twain Peterson to our wine bar. We recently hosted Joel who featured an amazing flight of his Ravenswood Zinfandels including special library releases and now we will enjoy wines from his new label, ‘Once & Future’. Morgan will present the always outstanding Zinfandel blends he makes under his ‘Bedrock’ label from three of California’s oldest vineyards.

Joel started Ravenswood in 1976 after honing the art and craft of winemaking with Joseph Swan since 1972. His first wines at Ravenswood were old vine Zinfandel from the Dry Creek Valley and he soon realized that the best Zinfandel vineyards were older, low production, dry farmed and terroir driven. Using classic winemaking techniques, small open top redwood fermenters, indigenous yeast, hand punchdowns, extended maceration and barrel aging in French oak, Joel has been producing beautifully balanced, flavorful wines which have lived up to Ravenswood’s “No Wimpy Wine” mantra for four decades. After the phenomenal growth of Ravenswood into one of the world’s most recognized labels, Joel decided to get back to his roots and thus, founded ‘Once & Future’, a smaller project “specializing in wines from unique older vineyards”.

Morgan Twain Peterson literally grew up in the wine world watching his dad craft legendary Zinfandel. Thanks to his time at the feet of his Zinfandel Master Pop, Morgan learned to appreciate the value of old vines and knows where to find some of the best preserved field blends in California. Morgan founded Bedrock Wine Co. in 2007 with the objective to “channel the fruit of ancient vines into powerful, elegant and distinctly Californian wines.” It is fair to say he has achieved that objective many times over, becoming a highly regarded winemaker in his own right and making his father beam with pride. His wines are seriously allocated, and we have been proud supporters of just about everything he has made since the beginning.
