Julie Johnson’s Rutherford Bench estate is part vineyard, part working farm: dry-farmed vines, olive trees, sheep, guinea fowl, and the kind of unhurried Napa Valley hospitality that has become increasingly rare. Her wines carry that same character—generous, grounded, and unmistakably alive.

We're delighted to welcome Julie Johnson, owner and winemaker of Tres Sabores, to Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant for an evening of tasting and conversation. A longtime champion of organic farming, Julie will pour a selection of her wines and share the stories behind them: the soil, the seasons, the animals, and the people who make this small estate feel so singular.

Expect a lively, far-ranging flight: crisp Napa Valley rosé, mountain-grown Sauvignon Blanc, a perfumed Rhône-style white, juicy El Dorado Barbera, and Julie’s soulful estate Zinfandel—wines that make you want to pull up a chair, open another bottle, and stay a while.

 Come thirsty. Leave with a bottle, a story, and perhaps a new favorite Napa Valley winery.

Julie Johnson is the owner and winemaker of Tres Sabores, the small Rutherford estate she founded in 1999 after co-founding Frog’s Leap in 1981. A former public health nurse turned vintner and longtime advocate for organic farming, Julie has built a distinctly personal expression of Napa Valley—one rooted in stewardship, curiosity, and the pleasure of gathering around a table. Her winery’s name, “three tastes,” captures that philosophy: the vine, the terroir, and the good company that brings a glass of wine to life. At Tres Sabores, Julie makes wine with all three in mind, treating the farm and the friendships it nurtures as inseparable parts of the story.
