Oriol Artigas
Just outside of Barcelona, an area known most for Cava, sits Spain’s smallest appellation, Alella. The first records of viticulture on this elevated coastal terrain date back to the Romans during the first century. It’s here that Oriol Artigas went all in on wine and his home region. Originally Oriol planned to become a chemist, but after working a harvest plans changed, a job offer was declined and his journey in wine began. He went to school for Oenology, teaching classes after graduating, and continued work with other local growers. What started with a few hundred bottles of his own wine in his garage has grown to farming around 30 acres with over 25+ varieties planted, many of them indigenous, ranging from 60 to 100+ years of age. An act of preservation when considering the threat of real estate interests around the coastal village. All wines are aged in neutral vessels, no new oak here, with zero additions in the cellar. Natural wines with oceanic freshness and soulful vibrancy.
