This weekend's tastings could well be themed "Delicious Surprises." Like one of the best value Cava's we've tasted in a while that just happens to come from Mexico. One of the best "French" dry roses we've tried this year that's coming from California. And a Rosso di Montalcino that certainly tastes like a fine $30 example - but sells for under $20. You'll find all that and more during Friday's delicious tasting from 3-7pm!
Here's what's in store for you:
El Bajio Valle de Bernal Brut Sparkling NV (Mexico) - A collaboration between Freixenet de Mexico and La Competencia Imports (the leading US Mexican wine importer), perhaps it's not shocking that the best value "Cava" in the shop today is from Mexico! Crisp, fresh and brightly dry.
Language of Yes Les Fruits Rouges Pink Wine 2025 - It's tempting to make Randall Graham the star of this story, but it's actually the 28% Tibouran that Randall grafted onto Pinot Noir stock. So I guess Randall is the star? Nah, it's the wine, which is dry, vibrant and delicious!
Kellerei Kaltern Caldaro Pinot Grigio 2024 - It's all too easy to overlook wines like this that are simply delicious year-after-year-after year. In this, the 12th year we've brought it to you, it's a winner again and still excellent value.
Antiquum Farm Pinot Noir Willamette Valley Little Bud 2024 - Always a favorite, Stephen Hagan's Pinot from the entire vineyard is the perfect Pinot for springtime cookouts. Rich and deep, it's just as happy with burgers as salmon.
Fanti Rosso di Montalcino 2021 - Terrific Rosso di Montalcino with enough time in bottle to be fully ready to go and a shockingly good $17.98 sale price. Limited and worth chasing down while it lasts.
And a surprising cheese to match: Massimo Magaya de Sidra. Take cow's milk cheese from the corner of Galicia and Basque country in Spain, shape it in a cone, then finish it's aging surrounded by the pressings left from making cider. You get milky richness with subtle apple and alcoholic notes and even more apple from the edible rind. A wild ride - kind of like the wine tasting itself!
