Celebrate one of the most beloved cookbooks of all time. Bring a dish, share food, make friends and memories.

We're thrilled to invite you to Bold Fork Books' most popular event: Cookbook Club. We've been doing this for 3+ years now and we regularly welcome familiar and fresh faces to our shop for this potluck-style event.

Here’s how it works: everyone will prepare a dish from a culinary classic: the 50th Anniversary edition of THE TASTE OF COUNTRY COOKING by Edna Lewis. Ahead of the event, you’ll receive access to a spreadsheet where you and other attendees list chosen dishes.

Then we’ll gather in the shop and share a feast! We’ll talk through the process of procuring ingredients, challenges and unexpected pleasures of the cooking process and other things related to the book.

If you purchase a copy of the book from us with your ticket, you can pick it up in our store or have it shipped for an additional cost.

PLEASE NOTE: because of the high demand of this event, we will NOT be able to process refunds and NOT be able to transfer these tickets to a future month. We will email you when copies of the book are available for pick up and shipping!

ABOUT THE COOKBOOK

A stunning 50th-anniversary edition of one of the most beloved cookbooks of all time, by “the empress of Southern cooking” (The New Yorker). Beautifully repackaged and redesigned, with a new foreword by Toni Tipton-Martin.

With the publication of The Taste of Country Cooking, Edna Lewis proudly announced the food of the American South as one of the world’s great cuisines. From Baked Virginia Ham and Corn Muffins to Oyster Stew and Lemon Meringue Pie, in its pages Miss Lewis (as she was almost universally known) extols the virtues of the good food of her childhood, spent in a Virginia farming community founded by her grandfather and his friends after Emancipation. A celebration of eating locally—decades before “farm-to-table” became common parlance—the book catalogs the joys of cooking with the seasons: the field greens and salads of spring; pan-fried chicken and crushed peaches in summer; baked ham and sweet potatoes for fall; and hearty soups and stews during the cold winter months. An affirmation of a distinctly American way of eating, half a century after its publication, this remains the definitive book on Southern cooking.

Edna Lewis was the recipient of numerous awards, including the Grande Dame of Les Dames d'Escoffier International and the inaugural James Beard Living Legend Award. She was the author of The Taste of Country Cooking, In Pursuit of Flavor, and The Gift of Southern Cooking (with Scott Peacock). She died in 2006.
