Come hungry and experience the flavor, history, and soul of one of Miami’s most storied neighborhoods. Overtown EatUp! returns to SOBEWFF® with James Beard Award-winning chef, restaurateur, author, and television personality Marcus Samuelsson leading a celebration of the people, food, music, and culture that make Historic Overtown unlike anywhere else in the city.

Samuelsson’s connection to the neighborhood runs deep. As the chef behind Red Rooster Overtown, he has embraced the community’s extraordinary culinary and cultural legacy while helping introduce a new generation of diners to its story. For Overtown EatUp!, he turns the spotlight to the neighborhood itself, bringing together local chefs, restaurants, and culinary talent for a walk-around tasting that celebrates the flavors and traditions found throughout this historic community.

Expect a soulful spread inspired by the many influences that have shaped Overtown and Miami’s Black food culture, from Southern comfort food and Caribbean flavors to barbecue, seafood, fried chicken, and generations-old recipes served alongside fresh interpretations from today’s chefs. More than a tasting, it’s a chance to discover the stories and people behind the plates while experiencing the neighborhood through the food it has helped make part of Miami’s identity.

The celebration takes over The Urban, an open-air gathering place in the heart of Historic Overtown, where food, drinks, music, and community come together under the Miami sky.

Once known as the “Harlem of the South,” Overtown has long been a destination for Black culture, music, hospitality, and incredible food. Come spend the afternoon with Marcus and the neighborhood’s culinary community as Overtown EatUp! celebrates that legacy—and the chefs and tastemakers carrying it forward today.
