SOBEWFF- El Mercado: The Flavors Of Latin America

For the first time ever, SOBEWFF® is bringing the spirit of a Latin American mercadito to life with El Mercado, a vibrant new celebration of the cultures, flavors, and traditions that make Latin American cuisine one of the most dynamic culinary melting pots in the world.

Leading this first-of-its-kind Festival experience are two of Miami’s culinary powerhouses: James Beard Award-winning chef and 2026 SOBEWFF® Tribute Dinner honoree Michelle Bernstein, and acclaimed chef and hospitality veteran David Martinez. A celebrated chef, restaurateur and cookbook author Bernstein has spent her career championing the vibrant flavors and multicultural influences that define Miami cooking. Alongside her, Martinez brings a deeply personal perspective shaped by his Oaxacan roots, years in hospitality, and passion for the food, traditions, and generous spirit of Latin culture.

Together, they’ll transform Miami Design District’s Jungle Plaza into a bustling mercadito, bringing together chefs and culinary talent to showcase the incredible breadth of Latin American cuisine. Wander from stand to stand and eat your way across the region, with the kinds of dishes that make a market impossible to navigate without stopping for “just one more”—golden tequeños and stuffed arepas, sizzling fritanga and crispy empanadas, tacos piled high with flavorful fillings, and plenty of saucy, cheesy, savory surprises along the way.

At its heart, El Mercado is a celebration of the extraordinary melting pot of cultures that has shaped Latin American food. From Mexico and the Caribbean to Central and South America, generations of Indigenous, African, European, and immigrant influences have created cuisines as diverse as the communities behind them. Here, those traditions come together in one lively marketplace where every stand offers a new flavor, story, and reason to linger.
