WHAT: Sip the Science: The Geology of Wine
A Guided Tasting: From Different Soils Come Different Wines
Beneath every great wine is a story written in rock, soil, and time.
SPEAKER: Diana Khandilyan, Pour Across America
Join us for a unique evening where geology meets the vineyard. Through a guided tasting of six American wines, we will explore how different geological environments—shale, volcanic soils, limestone, schist, decomposed granite, and basalt—shape the structure, aroma, and character of wine.
This experience connects familiar geoscience concepts such as weathering, soil formation, drainage, and heat retention with their expression in the glass.
During the session you will enjoy:
• A short introduction to the geology of wine and terroir
• A guided tasting of wines grown on different soil types
• Geological context linking rock formations to wine structure and flavor
Whether you're a wine enthusiast, geology lover, or simply curious, this event will change how you taste wine forever.
Age Policy:
• Wine tasting participants must be 21 or older.
• Child sitting is available free for children ages 5–13 years old. (capacity 6)
WHEN: April 10th Friday evening 6.00 pm -9.00 pm
REGISTRATION: $65 pp. please note ages of children needing childcare and if there are food allergies.
