Celebrate the flavors of the harvest by learning the timeless art of vinegar pickling! In this hands-on workshop, we'll explore how to safely preserve seasonal vegetables using a traditional vinegar brine and water bath canning method. You'll learn the fundamentals of selecting produce, creating a balanced brine, blending herbs and spices for your own unique flavor profile, and safely processing jars for shelf-stable storage.
Each participant will prepare and take home a jar of their own custom pickled vegetables, crafted with a blend of seasonal produce such as peppers, green tomatoes, or other late-summer favorites. Along the way, we'll sample a variety of finished pickles, discuss endless flavor combinations, and share practical tips for recreating the process at home. You'll also receive a detailed take-home guide with recipes, equipment recommendations, and step-by-step instructions so you can continue preserving the season long after the class is over.
Whether you're brand new to home food preservation or looking to expand your homesteading skills, this relaxed and welcoming workshop is a wonderful way to build confidence in the kitchen and enjoy the abundance of the season. Please note: This class focuses on vinegar pickling and water bath canning. We will not be covering fermentation (such as sauerkraut or kimchi) or pressure canning techniques.
