Join us for our next FPWM Flight Night celebrating the depth, distinction, and enduring allure of Oakville, one of Napa Valley’s most hallowed Cabernet addresses. We will pour a six-wine exploration from two of the appellation’s most compelling estate producers: Paradigm Winery and Turnbull Wine Cellars, plus a couple of unexpected large-format treasures from their respective libraries—an opportunity to experience mature Oakville wines in the format they were made to age in. This is not to be missed!

Set in the very heart of Napa Valley, Oakville is a narrow, roughly two-mile-wide corridor framed by the Vaca Mountains to the east and the Mayacamas to the west. Its combination of well-drained soils, varied exposures, warm days, and cooling evening influences has made it one of the world’s great homes for Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux varieties. Although officially recognized as an AVA in 1993, Oakville’s wine history reaches back to the nineteenth century and includes such foundational names as H. W. Crabb’s To Kalon Vineyard, Robert Mondavi, and Joseph Heitz. Today, its compact acreage encompasses an extraordinary concentration of Napa’s most revered estates—an appellation whose name on a label signals both pedigree and a distinctly powerful, polished style.

Paradigm Winery is a true Oakville original: an independently owned, estate-grown expression of the appellation guided by Ren and Marilyn Harris, whose Napa Valley farming roots reach back decades. The Harrises acquired their Oakville property in the mid-1970s, recognized its particular affinity for red Bordeaux varieties, and released their inaugural Paradigm vintage in 1991. From the beginning, the wines were made by Heidi Peterson Barrett, whose long stewardship helped establish Paradigm’s unmistakable signature: generous yet beautifully proportioned fruit, classical structure, and the depth that comes from a single, contiguous estate. Rather than chase trends, Paradigm has stayed resolutely focused on Oakville-grown Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Zinfandel—wines of place, consistency, and remarkable longevity. Presently, Mark Fasi has taken over as Director of Production (Winemaking and Vineyard), following the departure of legendary founding winemaker Heidi Peterson Barrett in 2024.

Turnbull Wine Cellars brings a complementary vision of Oakville: a historic estate known for precision, expressive vineyard sourcing, and a willingness to explore the varied personalities of Napa Valley’s great sites. Its Oakville home, Fortuna Vineyard, is central to the winery’s identity, while its broader vineyard program gives Turnbull the ability to illuminate how different sites shape Cabernet Sauvignon and other varieties. The wines combine the generosity Napa Valley is known for with carefully metered freshness, tannin, and aromatic detail—wines that capture the scale, concentration, and refined balance for which this celebrated district is prized.
