Goat Plum Tree Farm's Mushroom 101 and Foraging Class

Ready to dive into the amazing world of mushrooms? Join Goat Plum Tree Farm for our flagship event, 3 hours of hands-on, thoroughly informative mushroom madness! In the first hour you'll enjoy a powerpoint presentation on all things fungi from mushroom natural history, biology and anatomy to health benefits, cutting-edge research, how to identify mushrooms and how to stay safe! During the second hour you'll gain infield experience, and engage in inquiry with our instructors. You'll understand the foundations of ID skills, and of course we won't let you go hungry! Dine on delectable, gourmet fungi during our cooking demo. We'll cook any of the wild edibles we found just for you! You'll learn all the basics of mushrooms and foraging, start foraging like a pro with your newly developed skills! Perfect for beginners or anyone curious about wild mushrooms! The classes are happening between August and October. There will be no additional classes added for 2026. Once you purchase a ticket you will receive an email within a week stating we've received your order. The date of this class is 9/26/2026. The location of this class is at UMD Wicomcio County Extension Service office at 28647 Old Quantico Road Salisbury, MD 21801. Classes are also being held at the American Chestnut Land Trust located in Prince Frederick, MD, if you would like tickets to that location please go to our main list of class dates on Eventbrite. If a class being held in Salisbury has to be rescheduled due to unfortunate weather, we will honor your ticket for a reseacheduled date in 2026 or a new date in 2027. Dates are subject to our choosing, rescheduling due to unforeseen circumstances and weather. Class is recommended for teens to seniors, but we've had kids as young as 8 attend and have a great time. Since starting our foraging classes in 2021, we've hosted and taught over 1000 passionate nature lovers. Your confident leader is Matthew, who is a certified forager by 10+ state health departments. There are old mushroom foragers and there are bold mushroom foragers, but there are no old, bold mushroom foragers. Join us!
