If you like your wines elegant and flavorful and your winemakers fascinating and witty, this is the class for you!
Sonja Magdevski makes some of the most beautiful, succulent, and irresistible white and reds wines we've ever tasted from California's Central Coast. And is a fascinating, thoughtful and creative person to hang out with, too. That's what I thought the first time I met her back in 2021. And what you'll know when you join Sonia for this Master Class tasting with Sonja and her brilliant Clementine Carter wines.
Sonja has had a wild ride, from parents to emigrated from Macedonia to Michigan in the 1960s, a stint in journalism, becoming inspired towards wine while visiting Macedonian vines in 2003 and then planting her first vines with Emilio Estevez in his Malibu backyard. Which didn't work, but pulled her to slightly warmer coastal vines near Santa Barbara.
Today she makes mainly Rhone varietal reds from the Sta. Rita Hills and neighboring areas. As critic Jeb Dunnuck says, he wines are "never the biggest or richest wines in the vintage yet always shine for their incredible elegance and finesse, and I’ve often compared them to Pinot Noir."
For this class, Sonja will be sharing two brilliant whites from Grenache Blanc and Rousanne and then three award-winning reds from Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre. Finishing up with something unique: Clementine Carter Sonja & Greg's Cider Factory Lover's Lane, the organic cider she makes with husband Greg Brewer.
This is a seated class in the downstairs classroom and will include wine-friendly snacks along with plenty of great conversation and chances for Q&A.
