Allow DRAMA to lead you into a Platonic Romance. The Chicago duo’s third full-length is a full immersion into their electro-R&B approach, representing the fullest realization yet of Via Rosa and Na’el Shehade’s intoxicating and alluring sound. These 13 tracks cover the wide span of human emotion—heartbreak, the realization of new and existing love, a sense of acceptance that comes with personal maturity—accompanied by Rosa’s rich, deeply felt vocals and Shehade’s detailed and sumptuous production. If you’ve been along with DRAMA for the journey so far, you’ll find Platonic Romance is their most rewarding statement to date; if you’re just getting acquainted with this enormously talented duo, it’s the perfect place to start.

Platonic Romance is DRAMA’s first album since 2020’s Dance Without Me saw release; the previous record was followed by a sold-out tour that was ultimately cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Ever resourceful, Rosa and Shehade kept their loyal fanbase engaged in lockdown through performing directly to their homes via livestreams, and in 2021, they returned to the stage with appearances at Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, and Life is Beautiful, and were joined by Blue Man Group for the latter; they also collaborated wiith UK dance duo Gorgon City on the 2021 single “You’ve Done Enough” and released two EPs, Don’t Wait Up EP in 2022 and Till We Die EP the following year, before making their Coachella debut in 2023.

DRAMA formally began work on Platonic Romance last year, but some songs have been in the works since the duo were still honing their chops in the late-2010s. “It's a mixture of stuff that we've written recently, and music that we’ve been working on for a long time and have been waiting for the right moment to put out—for the moment where it all makes sense,” Rosa explains. “It feels like we've been working on this record for our whole lives, really.”

As Rosa explains, the overarching theme and title itself of Platonic Romance came from the unique and winning creative partnership that has existed between the pair since DRAMA’s early days. “The music represents how friends can get together and have platonic romantic moments,” she says. “Mine and Na’el's relationship is very platonically romantic, in the sense that we love each other very much but we also are able to work together very well without it being too crazy or hectic. We’re really good friends, and we’re family at the same time. There's a sense of trust, respect, honesty, and loyalty that comes into play far beyond just love.”
