Local Event
Hidden in the southwest facing hillsides of Alexander Valley, where morning fog yields to warm afternoons and cool marine evenings preserving tension and structure in the wines, Garden Creek Ranch stands as a living expression of endurance, passion and dedication to family. This seminar invites you to explore the soul of multigenerational stewardship, a legacy where the land is stewarded as a legacy and inherited with reverence, farmed with discipline, and refined through decades. For the Warnelius-Miller family, winegrowing is a calling, a lifelong pursuit of excellence that transforms the vineyard’s complexity into a living expression of passion and place.
Legacy Winegrowing traces three generations of the Warnelius-Miller family and their commitment to elevating estate viticulture in Sonoma County farmed by the family as vintners. From early plantings to today’s precision farming practices, the evolution of Garden Creek reflects a deep respect to tradition while embracing creative innovation. Beginning with thoughtful clonal selection in the vineyards to sustainable and regenerative conscious vineyard farming ethos, where meticulous winemaking precision lead by artistic intuition converge to produce wines of structure and complexity crafting to age for decades.
Participants will examine how the complex soil expression in Alexander Valley shapes varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux blends, wines defined by balance, structure, and a distinct mineral undercurrent born from mountain hillside soils. The discussion will illuminate how generational perspective informs risk-taking, experimentation, and quality benchmarks that continually raise the estate’s standards.
This is not simply a tasting. It is a study of lineage — how family continuity, disciplined viticulture, and adaptive innovation converge to craft wines that reflect both place and evolution.

About GARDEN CREEK Ranch Vineyards Winery
Garden Creek is a family-owned estate where second-generation vintners Karin and Justin Warnelius-Miller craft wines which reflect their family’s rich legacy in winegrowing in Alexander Valley, Sonoma County since 1969. Both have been winegrowing since childhood with wine in their blood. Their focus is linear showcasing two noble varietals to the wine world, a traditional left bank Bordeaux varietal blend with their flagship wine named Tesserae composed of Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller components of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot alongside their grand dame Estate Clonal Selection, Chardonnay chosen of eleven diverse clones each from their estate vineyards.
Today they wine grow in two world class appellations. A decade ago, this passionate couple boldly embraced a second-generation perspective on winemaking with an expansion into the Anderson Valley, Mendocino. In 2024 they released a third wine and new brand under their family name Wärnelius-Miller intended to showcase new world versus old world. This wine showcases crafting high elevation Pinot Noir with clonal depth and again ageability in mind, made possible by the stunning Golden Fleece vineyard that sits above the fog line at 1,000 feet in the Anderson Valley above the village of Philo.
All of their wines are released with age of many years in bottle strictly by allocation to members of the mailing list only and to select restaurants across the United States. For more information, visit www.gardencreekvineyards.com.
