About the James Beard Foundation
Since its founding in 1986, the James Beard Foundation has championed independent restaurants and culinary professionals across the U.S., transforming from a celebration of gastronomy into a powerful changemaker in the food world. Named for chef, cookbook author, and pioneer James Beard—who taught cooking, hosted TV shows, and shaped American cuisine—the Foundation carries forward his spirit through programming like guest-chef dinners, scholarships, conferences, and the esteemed James Beard Awards.
Aligned with the vision of “Good Food for Good®,” the Foundation is dedicated to a vibrant, equitable, and sustainable independent restaurant industry, which it supports through advocacy, education, mentorship, and recognition.
