What's the best way to spend your Wine Wednesday? With an actual Italian winemaker, of course! Which is why we're so excited to invite all of you for an evening of food and wine with Vittorio Garda, co-owner and winemaker of the tiny 3-hectare Il Sorpasso Vineyard.

Founded in 2012 by Vittorio Garda and his partner Martina Ghirardo, Il Sorpasso is a hand‑tended estate carved into the steep alpine terraces of Carema, one of Piemonte’s smallest and most dramatic DOCs. Working organically across minuscule mountain parcels between roughly 300–700 meters, Vittorio focuses on Picotendro, the local strain of Nebbiolo, along with small plantings of Neretto and Ner d’Ala. Every task—from pruning to harvest—is done entirely by hand on ancient stone pergolas, resulting in wines that are lifted, pure, and unmistakably shaped by the rugged landscape. Il Sorpasso represents the new artisan voice of Carema: authentic, soulful, and deeply rooted in tradition.

Because they make only a limited number of bottlings, this event will feature different vintages of the wines Il Sorpasso produces. Come explore how these wines taste as they vary from year to year, and the environmental factors have affected the grapes. Each bottle will be paired with a complimenting food pairing, the way Old World wines should be! It's a very special treat to welcome a winemaker using such ancient wine growing methods to St Louis! First Course:
Sparkling Prosecco with Salmon Crostini

Second Course:
Piantagrossa Wino Blanco with Seupa alla Valpellinentze (cabbage soup gratinée)

Third Course:
Tachiss Nebbiolo with Polenta and Sautéed Mushroom Blend

Fourth Course:
Carema 2017 with Beef Stew and Housemade Focaccia

Fifth Course:
Carema 2020 with Dark Chocolate Torta Tenerina

We hope you'll join us to welcome Vittorio and enjoy his wines! Tickets for this event are just $75/person and include all of the food and wine pairings we'll be preparing that evening. Attendees will be able to take bottles of their favorites home to enjoy as well as talk and interact with Vittorio. So, if you can't make it over to Italy and meet winemakers this March, don't miss your chance to have a winemaker come to you!

Note: If you'd like to be seated with another group who has signed up separately, we'd be grateful if you inform us a day or two prior to the event. This really helps us out when it comes to planning the seating arraignment.

Refund Policy: If notified 72 hours or more before the event we are happy to provide guests with a full refund of your ticket price (Eventbrite will not refund any fees). If you should need to cancel in less than 72 hours, we can either roll your tickets over into a different event or offer you a store credit for the ticket price (which will not include Eventbrite fees).
