When we think of "summer wines," our first stop are wines that are crisp, bright, light and full of refreshing, juicy, flavor. The first four wines on the Friday tasting table this week are exactly that, from snappy Chenin to crisp rose and a juicy, high-altitude, Pinot Noir. The last wine? The opposite: rich, bold, darkly fruited, oak spiced, and crying out to be in a glass next to a well charred steak. Which is also pretty perfect for the season.
Here's what you'll be able to try this Friday from 3-7pm:
Christophe Thorigny Vouvray Sec 2024 - A summery, bone dry, full of citrus and fruit Chenin Blanc that will delight in sharing the table with fish or shrimp tacos and refresh sipped solo on a sunny afternoon.
SoHu Grasevina Croatia 2025 - Forget for a moment it’s from Croatia: this is a terrific all-season white that’s bursting with green apple and citrus fruit in a crisp, mouthwatering, package that really glides across your palate and leaves you thinking, “More, please!”
Ch Du Grand Bos Bordeaux Rose Perlostrea 2025 - Not what you expect from Bordeaux, but then neither is feisty young winemaker Lou Rochet. This is pink wine with loads of character and peachy fruit. A great oyster wine - Lou loves the bivalves! - and a joy to just drink.
Zorzal Pinot Noir Tupungato Valley 2024 - Pinot Noir likes cooler climates, so here we climb up the Andes Mountains to 5,000 feet or so. The result is ultra pure, fresh, and delicious Pinot rich enough for salmon and just plain fun to drink.
Bodegas Alejandro Monastrell Arbui 2023 - A big, rich, French oak-aged, 100% Monastrell from 70+ year-old vines in Valencia, this is the kind of "big red" you pull out to impress Cali Cab drinkers and enjoy with grilled meat and earthy vegetables.
All the wines will be on sale and, during the tasting, you can mix/match your way across the set for six-bottle discounts, too. We've already had heat, storms and smoke this summer - who knows what's coming next? Best to be prepared with summer wines from light to bold!
