Ok, if you're a Sancerre fan, you may well have had previous vintages of Benoit Chauveau Pouilly Fume La Charmette. Because it's stupid good Sancerre quality at Pouilly Fume prices. But you've probably not been sipping on Kydonitsa or Susumaniello wines recently and Vinho Verde without any spritz and "modern" Rioja with a nod to the late 18th century are likely to be new treats to you!
All are open for you to try this Friday from 3-7pm. Here's what you'll be exploring:
Quinta do Ameal Loureiro Vinho Verde 2024 - This is what Vinho Verde tastes like when you dispense with the fizz and focus on the grapes. As Wine Advocate says in the 93 point praise, it's "clean, sharp and precise, with purity, balance, freshness, citrus and mineral notes and a salty twist."
Nikolaou Kydonitsa 2023 - We didn’t know this either, but turns out the Kydonitsa grape from Greece’s Nemea makes a terrific springtime and seafood white! Native to southern Peloponnese, the name means “little quince” and there’s definitely a touch of that in the wine along with a subtle, captivating, floral perfume.
Dom Benoit Chauveau Pouilly Fume La Charmette 2024 - If you want to spend $45 for Sancerre, we're here to help! But if you want Sauvignon Blanc that's built on minerality and gunflint, a short ride across the Loire gets you that for under $25. Taste it. If you like Sancerre, you'll take this home.
Tenuta Giustini Susumaniello Puglia Avoglia 2024 - As you bathe in the huge aromatics, super-fresh flavors of blue and red berries, and hints of spice and pepper, you might think this is from a cool site in Italy's north. Nope, it's from scorching hot Puglia and the obscure Susumaniello grape. A summery treat.
Manuel Quintano Rioja Alavesa 1786 Labastida 2021 - When Manuel came home to Rioja in 1786 after a couple of years in Bordeaux, he tried making Rioja like Bordeaux. It worked. This is full of rich Tempranillo black fruit, sandalwood and spice with a grill-ready mocha/smoke note at the end. Yum.
All the wines are on sale and, during the tasting, you can mix/match your way to best six-bottle or more savings. So come by the shop this Friday from 3-7pm and sample something deliciously new!
