Local Event
Celebrate Fat Tuesday with Chef Douglas J. Weber, CEC, in this lively cooking demonstration that brings the energy and flavor of New Orleans straight to Columbus!
Step inside our Wasserstrom Culinary Kitchen at Mitchell Hall and take a seat around the kitchen island as Chef Weber prepares a mouthwatering lineup of Cajun and Creole classics. You’ll experience the sights, sounds, and irresistible aromas of the Big Easy while learning about the rich culinary traditions that define Louisiana’s food culture.
During this fun and interactive evening, you’ll discover the stories behind iconic dishes and ingredients—from the smoky depth of a perfectly made gumbo to the flaky, powdered-sugar bliss of fresh beignets. Chef Weber will share insights from his time apprenticing in New Orleans, where he fell in love with the city’s bold flavors and festive spirit.
Guests will enjoy a tasting menu featuring gumbo, po’boys, pralines, beignets, Hurricane cocktails, and café au lait—plus the traditional King Cake finale. Whoever finds the hidden token will be crowned the king (or queen) of next year’s celebration!
Expect a relaxed, entertaining environment filled with great music, stories, and plenty of laughs. Come ready to watch, learn, and eat!
