Please join us Thursday, October 10th at 6pm, as Steven Plant of Plant Wines leads us on a journey to discover the wines of Savoie in eastern France. Bordered by the Rhône Valley to the west, Switzerland to the north, Italy to the east, and Provence to the south, the region is a mecca for tourists and skiers, and famous for its cheeses, as well as Dolin Vermouth and Chartreuse liqueur. But unless you went to the Winter Olympics in Albertville, you may never have tasted Savoie’s unique wines – because those tourists and skiers drink most of it! (well, the locals help.)
Steven Plant’s company features artisanal growers and families working with minimal intervention to produce wines of real character and sense of place. We will try enchanting wines by four different producers from distinctive local varieties like gringet, verdesse and syrah’s close relative mondeuse, as well as the Rhône’s roussanne, known locally as bergeron. Steven will tell us how the mountains that surround the vineyards bring freshness to these fascinating Alpine wines. And Chef Jacques will offer dishes that showcase their unique flavors. So come for a food and wine experience you will find nowhere else!
