What does harvest actually look like in the Rhône? Not the postcard version. Not the textbook version. The real version – from the vineyard, through the cellar, and into the glass.
Join us for Harvest in the Rhône, Matthew Conway (Tippling House) will lead an intimate beverage workshop with Julien Cécillon and Nancy Kerschen, husband & wife winemakers joining us in Charleston to share their experience of one of the world’s most fascinating wine regions.
We’ll start with the foundations: the Rhône Valley’s grapes, appellations, soils, climate, and terroir, and how all of those pieces come together to create such distinctive wines. From Syrah in Cornas and Crozes-Hermitage to Viognier to see the different expressions of the Northern Rhône, this is a chance to explore the region through the perspective of the people who work its vineyards firsthand.
Then, we’ll get into the part that makes this workshop particularly special: harvest. Matthew recently spent time in France working alongside Julien and Nancy during this year’s harvest, getting a firsthand look at the work, weather, vineyards, and decisions that shape a vintage. Together, they’ll talk about what they experienced this year and how it compares with harvests of the past. What was different? What stayed the same? How does a growing season reveal itself in the finished wine? And what can someone actually learn from standing in a vineyard during harvest? Get to know The Rhône Valley, straight from the people who make it what it is.
