On October 10, Waterford Wine & Spirits will present something we have never before encountered: the complete 1855 Classification of Bordeaux assembled from a single vintage and presented at ten years of age.

The vintage is 2016.

From Pauillac to Margaux, Saint-Julien to Saint-Estèphe, Graves to Pessac-Léognan, the wines of 2016 emerged from a growing season that Bordeaux collectors now speak of with a mixture of admiration and disbelief. The year delivered extraordinary precision, remarkable freshness, and a level of consistency across the region that is almost unheard of. First Growths reached breathtaking heights, but perhaps more importantly, estates throughout the classification produced wines of uncommon purity and balance.

Yet the true story of 2016 is only now beginning to unfold. Ten years later, the wines are entering one of the most fascinating periods of their lives. The exuberance of youth is giving way to complexity. Dark cassis and blackberry fruit are being joined by cedar, graphite, cigar box, violets, truffle, and the savory nuances that have made mature Bordeaux one of the world's most revered wine experiences.

For a single afternoon, guests will have the opportunity to explore the entire hierarchy of the 1855 Classification—from the legendary First Growths of Lafite Rothschild, Latour, Margaux, Haut-Brion, and Mouton Rothschild through the celebrated Second, Third, Fourth, and Fifth Growths that together define the benchmark for fine wine across the globe.

This is not merely a chance to taste great bottles. It is an opportunity to experience Bordeaux as a complete system—to compare communes, philosophies, terroirs, and classifications side by side through the lens of one of the greatest vintages of the modern era.

History does not often announce itself. In 2016, it did.
