So you know how Thanksgiving is a bit of a train-wreck of a menu – savory, fatty, lean and sweet all on one plate? Well our Friday free tasting is a bit of a train wreck too! Like Thanksgiving dinner, it’s full of delicious things, some a little silly – like sweet potatoes with marshmallows – and others super sophisticated – like a really good oyster or sausage stuffing. We have no idea what tasting order is going to work on Friday – but we’re sure you’ll finish up delighted to have tasted it all! Here’s what you’ll sample when you stop by from 3-7pm on Friday:

Airlie Willamette Valley Seven White 2022 – A perfect Thanksgiving (or Asian food!) white built on Riesling, Pinot Gris and Grüner Veltliner plus four other grapes. As Wine Enthusiast says, “Ripe peaches are tempered by a zesty tonic water and lime combination.”

Fontanavecchia Falanghina Taburno del Sannio 2024 – This long-time Italian white favorite pulled down another Tre Bicchieri award this year! At once crisp and mouthfilling, it’s certainly a great seafood white and also delicious with pretty much anything.

Steininger Grüner Veltliner Grand Grü 2023 – Once again, the perfect Thanksgiving white! Although that sells the rich and mineral-laden white short, because it’s equally delicious with seared scallops or crunch Viener Schnitzel!

Ch Musar White Bekaa Valley 2018 – More than just the most famous white wine of Lebanon, this is one of the world’s most distinctively complex whites period. Rare, not cheap, but a must-try for every wine lover.

Andrew Murray Tous Les Jours Syrah 2023 – Even though it only ties other recent vintages with its 93 point rating, this is the finest Tous Les Jours Syrah we’ve tried to date. The perfect blend of ripe California fruit and savory Syrah smoke and earth.

Fracchia Voulet Malvasia Di Casorzo d'Asti 2024 – Sure, it’s the best wine pairing for chocolate ever – especially if you’ve got some cherries or raspberries in the mix – but this frothy, very low alcohol, sweet and refreshing red is also just a delight to sip ice-cold while the turkey is roasting.

Keeping with the “train wreck of flavor” theme, Jose has chosen a not-at-all-classic for our featured cheese: Goat Rodeo Cowboy Coffee Goat Cheese. Fresh goat cheese gets rubbed with Commonplace Coffeehouse’s Perpetual Blend Espresso beans and then aged six months to build flavor and texture. Does it go with any of the wine? Beats us! But guaranteed to be a fun taste. And more fun is better, right?
