Tedeschi Family Winery: Matriarca ‘Lot 25’

Handcrafted Legacy from Calistoga

“Hand-crafted, old-world style wines true to their terroir, enjoyed by friends and family alike.”

The Tedeschi family’s roots in Calistoga stretch back to 1919, when they emigrated from Pisa, Italy. In 1951, Eugene Tedeschi purchased the family property, planting his first grapevines among walnut orchards and setting the foundation for what would become Tedeschi Family Winery. His son Emil carried that vision forward, returning to Napa Valley in 1991 after co-founding Maui’s celebrated Tedeschi Vineyards.

Today, the winery is led by the fourth generation—Emilio as General Manager and Mario as Vineyard Manager—alongside winemaker David Sundberg. Together, they craft small-lot, old-world style wines sourced from carefully chosen neighboring vineyards. From Carignane and Petite Sirah to Cabernet Sauvignon, Viognier, and the family’s off-dry white blend “Fran’s Pick,” each wine reflects a deep commitment to heritage, authenticity, and the unique character of Calistoga.

Beyond the glass, Tedeschi has created a rich calendar of experiences that weave together wine, food, and community. From the annual Grape Stomp & Harvest Celebration to vineyard lobster feasts, starlit winemaker dinners, and even yoga among the vines, every event celebrates the joy of coming together over great wine.

Handcrafted Legacy from Calistoga

The Tedeschi family has been in the Napa Valley for several generations. Eugene Tedeschi planted the first grapes on their Calistoga property in the 1960s. Today, Emil Tedeschi produces hand-crafted wines in the tradition of his family's winemaking heritage.

Wine Spotlight: Matriarca ‘Lot 25’

A homage to our first-generation ‘Matriarca’ Franchesca Tedeschi. This special edition label is a medium-bodied blend featuring all three varietals of the Tedeschi estate’s original field blend. Farmed exclusively from the Tedeschi estate, this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, and Zinfandel will age gracefully. Enjoy now and over the coming 5-7 years. 210 cases.

Perfect Pairings: Perfect alongside grilled steaks, braised short ribs, or hearty mushroom dishes. Also pairs beautifully with aged cheeses and dark chocolate desserts.

Tasting Notes: A rich, layered red with notes of blackberry, plum, cocoa, and spice. Smooth tannins and a long finish make it equally enjoyable now or with a few years of cellaring.

The Team Behind the Wines

At Tedeschi Family Winery, the winemaking is truly a family affair. Emil Tedeschi, now Winemaker Emeritus, laid the foundation for the estate, and today his children—Emilio, Mario, and Elaine—carry forward his old-world, hand-crafted approach. From tending vines and crafting small-lot wines to welcoming guests in Calistoga, each family member plays a role, making every bottle a reflection of their shared heritage and passion for authenticity.

David Sundberg has been part of the Tedeschi team since 2010, guiding harvests and helping shape the winery’s growth while staying true to its small-lot, old-world style. With a background in both culinary arts and winemaking—earned through studies at California State University, Fresno, and experience from Napa to Chile—David brings a unique balance of precision and creativity. Beyond the cellar, he often shares his talents as a chef at Tedeschi’s special events, pairing food and wine in unforgettable ways.

Alongside the family, Stephanie Trotter-Zacharia has become an integral part of the Tedeschi story since joining in 2013. With nearly three decades in Napa Valley’s wine industry, she built the Tedeschi Wine Club and oversees marketing while also welcoming guests in the tasting room. Known for her warm hospitality and deep knowledge of the vine-to-bottle journey, Stephanie ensures every visitor feels like part of the Tedeschi family.
