Jay Youmans MW

Jay Youmans MW is a respected American wine educator, consultant, and Master of Wine, widely recognized for his contributions to wine education and industry expertise. He founded the Capital Wine School in Washington, D.C., in 2008, where he serves as Educational Director, providing accessible, high-quality wine education.

With more than 40 years of industry experience, Jay has held numerous roles, including sommelier, retailer, importer, distributor, wine judge, and writer. He also owns Rock Creek Wine Merchants, a consultancy specializing in wine sales and marketing. His extensive credentials include Certified Wine Educator (CWE), Advanced Level Sommelier, French Wine Scholar (FWS), Italian Wine Professional (IWP), and Certified Specialist of Sherry, among others.

In 2004, Jay became Washington D.C.’s first Master of Wine and received the prestigious Vina Errazuriz Trophy for a section of the MW exam on the Business of Wine. Through his work at the Capital Wine School, Jay continues to inspire and mentor countless wine professionals and enthusiasts, deepening their understanding and appreciation of wine.
