Tim Hanni MW is an American Master of Wine (MW), consultant, and author known for his expertise in wine and food pairing, as well as his research on consumer wine preferences. He became an MW in 1990, one of the first Americans to achieve the title.
Hanni is a strong advocate for understanding individual taste sensitivities and has pioneered the concept of “vinotyping”—a method that categorizes people based on their unique sensory preferences rather than traditional wine expertise. His research challenges conventional wine-pairing rules, emphasizing that personal taste should dictate wine choices rather than rigid guidelines.
Throughout his career, he has worked as a wine educator, consultant, and speaker, helping wineries and businesses better understand consumer behavior. He has also authored books, including "Why You Like the Wines You Like", which explores how genetics and experience shape individual wine preferences.
Hanni’s influence extends beyond education, as he has contributed to industry innovation and the broader acceptance of diverse wine styles.
