Spain's Ribera Del Duero region has produced increasing numbers of wines of notoriety and distinction. From its relatively obscure designation as a “DO” in 1982, Ribera del Duero has grown into a region that produces wines of remarkably intense flavor, color and savor. Wines from renowned Ribera Del Duero producers like Vega Sicilia and Pingus are among the most well-regarded and expensive wines in the world. Yet, more than 200 producers have emerged in the last several decades, making this a diverse and dynamic region that can offer wines of value and quality for every palate. As Decanter magazine said after a recent panel tasting of 60 wines, Ribera wines are: “…representative of an appellation which now sits with ease alongside the other great winemaking regions of the world.”
There's no question that Ribera produces wines of power and intensity, yet more recent vintages have come to exhibit more balance and freshness, allowing wines of identity and character to emerge.
This tasting will provide an education on the region in general along with insights into the evolution of Ribera wines - from the production of high-quality "everyday" wines to those worthy of your cellar. We look forward to raising a glass of delicious Riber Del Duero with you.
