We invite you to a fantastic tour through Germany to discover the wines and pray at the most notable shrines.

Our Tour will start in Cologne, on Thursday, September 15th with the arrival of all from the US. (Flight from US departs Wednesday, September 14th)

We will attend Mass with the archbishop of Cologne in the magnificent 12th century Gothic Cathedral Church of St. Peter. We will also do an exclusive roof tour of the cathedral and the Shrine of the Three Kings containing the relics of the Magi.

Nearby at the Dominican church of St. Andrew, we will visit the tomb of the famous 13th century Dominican, Albertus Magnus or St. Albert The Great. During a one-day excursion while still in Cologne, we will travel to the Ahr Valley Wine Area. Due to a huge flood in the summer of 2020, accommodations there are scarce, but the wine is flowing again. Tourists are warmly welcomed as their patronage of the local businesses supports the community as they work to rebuild.

On Day 3, we move on to the beautiful, picture friendly wine region of the Mosel where we will try wines from different high-end producers as well as traverse the Mosel River by boat - with yet another wine tasting on board. We will also visit the hospital donated by Cardinal Nicolaus of Cusa, a renowned Catholic Renaissance theologian and philosopher.

From Mosel, we will travel to the capital and largest city of the Rhineland, Mainz, which will serve as our base while we explore the surrounding areas.

First, we will visit the Rheingau Wine area and the monastery used to film parts of the “Name of the Rose” movie version of the Umberto Eco novel. Later in the afternoon we will visit the area where Saint Hildegard of Bingen, Benedictine abbess and mystic lived and worked.

On the second day in the area, we will explore the Castle of Heidelberg, one of the most stunning castle ruins Germany has to offer. During lunch, we will taste wines of the regions of Baden and Wuerttemberg. After lunch, we will visit two wineries in the Pfalz region on our way back to Mainz and have dinner at a wine restaurant in the Pfalz area.

The last five days of the tour will see us in Bavaria. We will begin in the city of Bamberg. There we will see the tomb of one of the few popes interred outside of Rome. Pope Clement II was laid to rest in the Cathedral of Bamberg. In the Nail Chapel, we will view a rare relic and treasure of the church, one of the nails from the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Very few people are aware that this priceless relic is preserved in the cathedral.

The last three days will be spent in the Munich area. All who are interested may join Father Juan for an exciting day at the world-famous Oktoberfest, which will be in its second week by the time we arrive. For all others, there is time off that afternoon/evening. On the second day, we will visit the inner city of Munich and its main attractions. After that, you are off for a last afternoon of exploring, shopping in Munich. On Sunday morning, all parties depart from the hotel in Munich to the airport and fly back to the US. Expected arrival time is early afternoon on Sunday, September 25th
