Today Paul is owner/winemaker for Sebastopol, California based wineries, Paul Hobbs Winery and Crossbarn Winery, as well as his international partnerships, Viña Cobos, Mendoza (1999); Crocus, Cahors (2011); and Yacoubian-Hobbs, Armenia (2014). His two latest efforts, soon to be released, are Alvaredos-Hobbs, Galicia (2018) and Hillick & Hobbs, Finger Lakes (2019).

Regarded as an international visionary for his accomplishments in the vineyard and winery, Paul Hobbs combines his childhood roots on the family farm in Upstate New York with an innovative scientific approach to refine the art of winemaking. He is recognized across the globe for breaking with tradition and forging new paths in the pursuit of excellence; both in stewardship of the land, and the crafting of wines that represent the purist concept of place – leading the way in the early 90’s as a pioneer of site specific, vineyard designate wines. His passion for viticulture, winemaking, and innovation has been widely recognized by the wine media, as well as by the consumer.

Alvaredos-Hobbs, Godello, Galicia, Spain, 2018

Fermented with indigenous yeast in foudre where it ages for 10 months. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. A delicately aromatic white wine displaying layered notes of lavender, citrus blossom, and kumquat with hints of white pepper. Beautifully balanced on the palate, with a medium body, bright acidity, and a lingering floral finish.

Yacoubian-Hobbs, Areni, Rind, Vayots Dzor, Armenia, 2016

Expressive aromas of red berries and black cherries, followed by floral notes of lilacs and hint of minerality. The palate is both intense and elegant. A ripe and powerful tannic structure and refreshing acidity bring balance to the fruit flavors, culminating in a complex yet harmonious finish.

Paul Hobbs, Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley, Sonoma County, California, 2018

Sourced predominately from the estates that are defined by their proximity to the coast and Russian River climate, the wine displays vivid crimson and aromas of violet, Morello cherry, and black tea. Velvet tannins on the palate ride along a juicy backbone of flavors such as cranberry, Blood orange, and Damson plum. The finish is long, powered behind a crisp acidity and appealing red clay-like minerality.

ABOUT IAN TODD BLACKBURN - WINE EDUCATOR & ENTREPRENEUR

Being a wine anything wasn’t part of the original plan - and when you're raised in a military family, drinking wine may not be the first idea that comes to mind, either. Ian discovered the wine industry at the ripe age of 21 and didn't consider it a career option, but working for top chefs in the formidable dining rooms of early 1990s Los Angeles blew doors open - leading Ian to a career in wine education.

In 1995, he started the internet’s first website dedicated to teaching the world about wine: LearnAboutWine.com. Hosting 100 classes a year for about 20 years – Ian is finally starting to get the hang of this.

In 2009, Ian and his best friend Clay Mauritson started making wine together: BeekeeperCellars.com; while this brand remains a small production, Ian hopes to grow Beekeeper Zinfandel into something special.

Working with and around great wine brands for most of his adult-life, and leading wine tours and culinary adventures around the world - Ian loves to share his story and his passion. When Covid shut down his wineLA.com event business, Ian pivoted full circle and restarted LearnAboutWine.com and launched ZoomIntoWine.com as a way to bring his version of wine education and entertainment to a limitless audience. With his family’s wine store Merchantofwine.com, virtual wine tastings with wine delivered "at home" is the latest chapter in the evolution of Ian’s dedication to wine education, edu-tainment and the wine lifestyle. This bio and life is a work in progress…let's see what the next vintage provides.
