Binah Winery (pronounced BEE’-nah) is an up-and-coming urban winery located in the suburbs of Allentown, Pennsylvania. Their Mission states a creative purpose of “inspired, small-batch premium wine crafted in Pennsylvania”. Owner/Winemaker Kevin Danna offers a self-assessment as “Formally educated in the science of winemaking, and practiced in the art, I make wines that are truthful expressions of time and place.”
“Time and place”. Approaching each vintage year on its own merits, embracing unique harvest circumstances as they are dealt, and exclusively using the best East Coast grapes. The wines we have selected for our Virtual Wine Tasting via Zoom on Sunday, December 6 at 3:30 pm (Eastern) are all crafted from the 2019 vintage using grapes harvested only in the Lehigh Valley.
All three wines are dry (two whites, one red), and both white wines won Silver Medals in the 2020 Finger Lakes International Wine and Spirits Competition. I have tasted all of Binah Winery’s wines and am totally smitten with them; so clean, so fresh, and so rivaling the best wines the East Coast has to offer! If you are unfamiliar with Binah Winery, then you are in for a most pleasant surprise!
Here’s what we’ve chosen for the event:
Chardonnay 2019
Silver Medal Winner - 2020 Finger Lakes International Wine and Spirits Competition
A dry light-bodied fruity white varietal wine. Aged in stainless steel, this is a lean style Chardonnay with crispness and pronounced minerality. Delicate fruit flavors of yellow apple and Meyer lemon. Floral aromas of citrus blossom. Mouthwatering salinity and medium-high acidity make this an excellent food-pairing wine.\
Stella 2019
Silver Medal Winner - 2020 Finger Lakes International Wine and Spirits Competition
A dry lightly oaked white wine blend of Seyval Blanc, Chardonel, and Vignoles. The subtle aroma of hay mingles with tropical and citrus flavors in this bright refreshing wine.
Chambourcin 2019
A dry medium-bodied red varietal wine. Supple and fruity with vibrant deep color. Fresh herbaceous aromas meld with flavors of black cherry, plum, black pepper, and tobacco in this wine with low tannins and ample acidity. Best served ever so slightly chilled.
The wines selected for our Virtual event are offered at a 25% discount in a package denoted on the Binah Winery website (www.binahwinery.com) as “Marty’s Pick” and totaling $49 plus 6% sales tax with a reduced shipping rate of only $6. Just choose “Marty’s Pick” and the $6 flat rate for shipping the three-bottle combo pack will apply. Shipping via UPS Ground. Delivery generally arrives within one day for most of Pennsylvania if ordering is completed by 2:30 pm the preceding business day. Pittsburgh area is two days.
