★Bruma "Plan B" Sauvignon Blanc, Valle de Guadalupe, Baja, Mexico, 2020 ($28)
Tasting Notes:
Light straw color with greenish silver reflections. Clean and bright. Subtle and delicate nose of lemon tea, peach, passion fruit, jasmine and fresh grass. Fresh and clean attack, with a delicate and crispy acidity. A Sauvignon of remarkable elegance and subtlety.
★Allan Scott, Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand, 2021 ($20)
Tasting Notes:
The 2021 Allan Scott Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is fresh, zesty, juicy and full. This fruit-driven new world style wine is what is expected of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. It is the reason why one of the winemakers – Bruce Abbott joined the industry.
★Isabelle et Pierre Clément de Chatenoy, Classique Blanc (Sauvignon Blanc) Menetou Salon, Loire Valley, France, 2020 ($24)
Tasting Notes:
This is an amazingly vivid white, bursting with pure aromas of citrus, white peach and flowers. On the palate, it has a precise concentration with long-lasting flavors of red grapefruit, apricot, and minerals.
★Chateau Roquefort, Bordeaux Blanc, Bordeaux, France, 2019 ($20)
Tasting Notes:
Clear and brilliant, the color is pale. The aromatic palette is complex with dominant floral notes: hawthorn, linden and jasmine. Tropical fruits and citrus fruits appear on the palate: lychee, pineapple, grapefruit, Williams pear. Nice tension, good acidity. Sweetness and freshness are in harmony.
★Krutz Family, Sauvignon Blanc, Beckstoffer-Melrose Vineyard, Napa Valley, 2020 ($70)
Tasting Notes:
Bursting tropical aromatics of stone fruit, guava and kiwi. This unfiltered approach, along with 100% new French oak and no malolactic fermentation, gives way to a bright but textured and long palette. Flavors of honeydew melon, white peach and a touch of lime all are found woven through this rare, old vine Sauvignon Blanc. Rutherford dust isn’t only for reds.
