Join Lauren Mowery, travel, food and wine writer for Decanter, Forbes, etc. and Croatian wine ambassadorts and winemakers for a virtual masterclass of Croatian wine on IG Live @Chasingthevine on February 16 at 1 PM ET with winemakers from the Komarna appellation. The purpose is to explore 3 expressions of Plavac Mali, a red grape indigenous to the southern Croatian region of Dalmatia.
If you’d like to taste along, you can purchase the wines in advance from Croatian Premium Wine - this bundle is at 10% off https://www.croatianpremiumwine.com/wine/komarna-premium-plavac-mali-bundle/
This tasting will introduce you to Komarna, explore Plavac Mali’s breadth of styles, and debate whether this red grape should serve as a flagship wine for Croatia.
The wines we’ll taste:
• Rizman Plavac Mali – elegant at 13.5 ABV
• Terra Madre Plavac Mali Premium – rounded with a bit of Syrah and Cab at 14 ABV, Decanter Silver
• Volarevic Gold Plavac Mali – robust at 15.5 ABV
About the Appellation
na is the newest wine region in Croatia. Located in Southern Dalmatia in the Dubrovnik-Neretva County, Komarna hugs the coast of the Adriatic Sea across the water from the Pelješac Peninsula. Composed of seven modern wineries, all certified organic, Komarna is planted primarily with Plavac Mali and Pošip. Tasting rooms perched above vineyards cascading down stony hillsides, boast enviable views of the glittering sea. Komarna is a quiet, wildly beautiful area, worthy of exploring in person, though for now, we’ll settle for tasting in our glasses.
