AWS Summer Solstice 2021 - Southern BBQ Style

The Australian Wine Society of Toronto is hosting its annual celebration of Summer Solstice on the evening of Thursday June 17th. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this year's event will be in virtual mode via ZOOM. 


The evening's fare will be prepared by Chef Gregory of Vintage Conservatory, the same outfit that prepared several of our recent and delicious virtual events. As usual, the meal will be suitably paired with a curated selection of Australian wines presented by our cellar master, Joe Gentile. 

The meal and wine will be delivered to your home(RESTRICTED TO GTA), where you complete the minimal preparation and plating, get comfortable and join us on ZOOM. Virtual "dining" rooms will be available for those of you who want to have a more private and quieter virtual dinner with your regular tablemates.


The evening will begin with a virtual reception on ZOOM, main room opening @ 7:00 p.m.. After some opening greetings, our cellar master, Joe Gentile will give a summary of the wines offered. At this point you can join your friends in your private virtual room.


ALL ORDERS RECEIVED BY JUNE 13th MIDNIGHT WILL BE ELIGBLE FOR A DRAW OF A VINTAGE FROM OUR CELLAR.


Cost will be $80 (meal & 1 bottle of wine) or $50 (meal only) for AWS members, $95 (meal & 1 bottle of wine) or $60 (meal only) for non-member guests. All taxes and fees are included.

Your Sizzlin' Southern BBQ dinner will include:


BBQ Course (choice of one)

  • Half Rack BBQ Ribs cooked low and slow for 36 hours, with house bourbon based BBQ sauce applied layer by layer to finish
  • Brick Half Chicken- cooked slow but finished with high heat, crispness in the house bourbon based BBQ sauce 
  • Sweet and Spicy Glazed Salmon - with house hoisin glaze, sesame seeds and salsa verde
  • Falafel Vegetable Skewers – with side house BBQ sauce (Vegetarian)

 Sides (included with all orders) 

  • Apple Fennel Slaw
  • Maple Baked Beans
  • Honey Cornbread

Dessert Course

  • Chocolate Cake with Australian Red Wine Ganache


NOTE: Because the meal is being prepared and then delivered, we have limited capability to substitute course selections. We will attempt to accommodate dietary restrictions as indicated in the order.
