Zinfandel and Primitivo Tasting
Saturday, September 22nd
Trapp Family Lodge Wine Cellar
There’s a bit of a spat going on in the wine world concerning these two grapes.
Some Italian producers would like to call their Primitivos Zinfandels instead. Well, at least for sale in the U.S.
California producers would rather they not, just as Champagne producers don’t want other folks using their name. It’s a little more complicated than that though. California did make Zinfandel well-known and Primitivo and Zinfandel both share a common ancestor the not so well known Crljenak grape from Croatia. Nobody is fighting for that name. To really muddy the waters one DNA test shows that they are the same grape another DNA test shows that they are not.
Anyway let’s step into the fray ourselves and do a little comparison tasting.
Price is $20. Please call or see the front desk to place reservations. 802 253-5742. Doors open @ 4:00. I suggest you arrive no later than 5:00 to avoid feeling rushed. People come and go during the tasting which is an informal walk around format. We end at 6:00
