Sardinian wines reflect the complex and turbulent history of the island. Sardinia was once governed by Carthage before the conquest by Rome and subsequently by Byzantines, Arabs, Catalans, and the House of Savoy. The island is quite isolated culturally, historically, and geographically from mainland Italy, which can be seen in its distinct and individual wines. This stunning terroir is still underrated and often overlooked, but it should be on every wine lover’s radar!
