Zachys Evening Tasting Series is back! After all the crazy weather here in New York, Zachys is thrilled to start our Complimentary Evening Tasting Series once more.  We have spent a lot of time focusing on wines from Italy and France, but there is a wealth of exceptional quality-driven wines from the southern hemisphere, especially from Australia and New Zealand.  Join us on Thursday, May 3rd from 4:30 to 7:30 pm for Zachys Wines of Australia and New Zealand – The New Classics from Down Under tasting.

You may be accustomed to inexpensive everyday whites and reds from both these New World regions, but they offer more than just values. Both Australia and New Zealand produce cellar-worthy wines; from New Zealand’s refreshing sauvignon blanc, elegant pinot noirs and chardonnays that rival Premier and Grand Cru Burgundies, to Australian Shiraz/Syrah’s that compete with the best Northern Rhônes, and much, much more.  The critics are also taking note of the exceptional wines New Zealand and Australia have to offer with renewed vigor.  Nick Stock, a contributing editor for Jamessuckling.com, notes wines from New Zealand showcase “depth and quality,” further adding that they have, “classic refinement.” Josh Raynolds of Vinous Media has equally high praise for the wines of Australia and writes: “Australia produces as wide a range of high-quality wines as any country in the world, from almost all imaginable varieties and in all styles, while quality has never been higher than it is today. Consumers who view these wines as all red, all big, all the time are missing out.”

We could not agree more with Nick Stock and Josh Raynolds, and what better way to taste these exceptional wines than at our special complimentary evening tasting, Discover the Wines of Australia and New Zealand – The New Classics from Down Under on Thursday, May 3rd from 4:30 to 7:30 pm.  We will be featuring benchmark estates, as well as the rising stars that have reignited the focus on artisanal winemaking from Australia and New Zealand, challenging some of the best European wines.

“The depth and quality of the wines tasted, shared across regions from north to south, has left me with a strong feeling that New Zealand has hit a stage that I will describe as classic refinement…Tasting the nation’s best producers it is clear that there’s a willingness to trust the land, the terroir, to work hard in the vineyard and winery and to craft wine of authentic character with a strong connection to place.” - Nick Stock, Contributing Editor, jamessuckling.com
