South End Buttery is honored to welcome back Chef Marisa Iocco! Back in 2007 when we were just two years old, Chef Iocco helped us transition from a bakery-café to add our restaurant and full bar and helped us tickle the stomachs of South Enders for nearly a year. She returns to join The Buttery's pastry chef Chris Goluszka present a delicious 5-course dinner paired with luscious Italian wines.
Chef Marisa Iocco is truly one of Boston’s cooking legends. A native of Orsogna in Southern Italy’s Abruzzo region, she was trained in architecture, fine art and cooking. For nearly three decades, Chef Iocco has been filling the stomachs of Bostonians with her soulful, edgy and groundbreaking interpretations of traditional Italian classics. Her food is loved by so many for the depth of flavor and whimsical twists she brings to every dish she creates.
Marisa believes that the sophistication behind modern Italian cuisine results from using beautiful ingredients combined with technique and the love for food she learned from her mother. Her first restaurant, Galleria Italiana, opened to rave reviews and she went on to open La Bettola, South End Galleria, Bricco, Umbria and Mare, all to critical acclaim. She is currently executive chef and co-owner of Spiga in Needham and Polpettiamo in Providence.
Marisa’s love of food showcases traditional Italian cooking techniques with fresh, seasonal ingredients and has earned her Esquire Magazine’s distinction as one of the “Top Ten Chefs in America,” while Conde Nast named Mare one of the top 80 places to eat in the world. In addition to numerous other awards and honors, Marisa has been named by the Accademia Cucina Italiana as one of the best Italian chefs in America and honored by Les Dames d’Escoffier for her authentic yet playful approach to Italian cooking.
