Sangiovese is one of the most important grape varieties in Italy. In Italy, Sangiovese’s proverbial home is Tuscany. It forms the backbone of Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino (and more often than not a clone of the variety called Sangiovese Grosso), Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Morellino di Scansano and also plays a role in many Super Tuscans. Beyond that, Sangiovese simply produces delicious wines which tend to be food-friendly with their elevated acidity and assertive tannins, and partner brilliantly with a wide range of foods, not just Italian. Join Marco Deary, Italian Wine Specialist for Antinori for an evening exploring the different styles of Sangiovese throughout Tuscany. Whether it be Chianti, Brunello or Super Tuscans Marco will break down how Sangiovese differs throughout Tuscany depending on terroir, climate and tradition.
