City Light Orchestra
David Basse is excited to again present the Summertime Music Series that he began at Holy-
Field Vineyard 21 years ago. We are thrilled the series continues without a break and honored that
many of the hundreds of musicians that have performed here, are back for our 2021 season. David
joined forces with pianist, Tim Whitmer in August of 1982, to form City Light Orchestra. The band
has been celebrated as a, “True Slice of Kansas City”. The original band, with Ahmad Alaadeen
and LaVerne “Big L” Barker performed 5-7 nights a week together for several years. Vocalist
and drummer, David Basse began his career in music in Nebraska, and in 2017 he was inducted
intoThe Nebraska Music Hall of Fame. This year’s CLO consists of David’s longtime trio with
Joseph Straws Jr, and pianist Greg Richter, plus horn players long associated with the band, Jason
Goudeau on the trombone, Nate Nall on the trumpet and saxophonist, Todd Wilkinson.
