Local Event
The next tasting is Monday, March 18, 2024, at 7 pm. This is a one-time change from our usual Wednesday date. The wine varietal selected for tasting will be Zinfandel. Zinfandel is a uniquely California wine with Hungarian and/or Italian roots (depending on who you talk to!). There is a lot of Zinfandel to choose from at all price levels, and they can come from almost any part of California.
As a reminder, the tastings follow a familiar format. Each person (not each couple) will bring a bottle of the featured wine to the tastings. Wine glasses, tableware, bread, cheese, and wine-tasting sheets will be provided by the Club in exchange for a fee of $20 for members and $25 for non-members. Attendees will be seated at tables of five to six people. You are welcome to specify if you wish to sit with friends. Often those requests can be accommodated.
For those who have not attended one of our tastings, here is a brief description of how we go about evaluating the wines. Everyone in attendance brings a wine of the featured varietal. To begin the tasting, the wines are opened and then concealed in a bag to hide the label. The bottles are shuffled and labeled A-F and then tasted ‘blind’. After much sniffing and sipping we go around the table to hear each person’s comments and preferences. The wines are revealed at this point at each table. Results are tallied and wines are ranked first to last. During the process, there is a lot of socializing about wine and everything else!
