About Malvirà


Malvirà, passion for wine for three generations. When Giuseppe Damonte started to produce wine in the 50s in the winery of his family, he had a dream: to bottle the soul of the land that he loved, to be discovered sip by sip.


In the mid Seventies the company was renamed Malvirà, after the name of the old 19th century building located in the centre of Canale that became the headquarter of the winery. This peculiar name refers to the exposure of the courtyard, which unusually faced North, instead of South, as the rural tradition prescribed. In 1989 the winery Malvirà was moved to the current location at the foot of the S.S. Trinità vineyard and enlarged in the following years, to adapt to the company needs.


Massimo and Roberto, second generation, inherited from their father a production philosophy that makes Roero the greatest inspiration: Malvirà offers expressive and refined wines, capable of conveying true emotions.


About Giacomo Damonte

When he was very young, he dreamed of becoming an aeronautical pilot, now he pilots the winery endorsed by his father hired as a navigator.


After finishing his oenology studies in Alba, he got a degree in viticulture and oenology at the University of Turin. He started immediately to work in the winery, assisting his father Roberto by bringing new stimuli in the production of Malvirà wines. Today he is responsible for the technical oenological direction.


Malvirà Spumante Rive Gauche, NV 100% Arneis sourced from the Trinità Vineyard. This sparkling Arneis has aromas of mature yellow apple skin, acacia and dried apricot. The aromas carry over to the brisk palate along with an orange zest note. 


Malvirà Roero Arneis, 2021 Straw yellow, the nose expresses all the typicality of arneis thanks to clear floral hints of elderberry and acacia which are flanked by evident citrus references. In the mouth it is fresh, characterized by a beautiful acidity and balanced. He drinks hard, closes with a finish of good persistence, on the fruit.


Malvirà Barbera d’Alba, 2019 Bright, medium-dense ruby with purple hues. Impressive nose with lots of fresh fruit, dark cherry, blackberry and elderberry, delicate savory components in the background. Spreads richly on the palate, lots of sweet plum fruit, finely meshed tannin and dark chocolate on the finish.


Malvirà Langhe Nebbiolo, 2020 This balanced wine was made exclusively from the Nebbiolo strain, which grew in the vineyards of Trinità and Mombeltramo. Fermentation in stainless steel vats, aged in French oak barrels for 18-24 months and 10 months in a bottle. Ruby red, in the nose dried rose, raspberries, tobacco, spices, in the mouth dark fruit, tobacco, spices, balanced tannins. Serve with cold meats, red meats and venison.


Malvirà Roero Riserva Mombeltramo, 2017 The Roero Mombeltramo of Malvirà is an elegant ruby red wine, expression of the Nebbiolo vineyard cultivated on the Roero hills; it emanates a raspberries and strawberries bouquet, in addition to some spices. The taste is a warm one, endowed with pleasant softness and great balance. This Roero wine is perfect in combination with important platters, like game, roasted or braised beef, besides seasoned cheeses.


Malvirà Roero Riserva Renesio, 2017 The wine’s concentration is impressive, particularly in the way the fruit completely covers the tannins, conveying an impression of near-seamlessness. With time in the glass the wine’s inner perfume emerges, but the Renesio remains a Roero essentially built on a frame of very ripe fruit.


Malvirà Birbet, NV Made with the partially fermented must of the Brachetto Longo grape, the Malvirà NV Birbet has candied aromas of raspberry or cherry lollipop with cola, some crushed mint or laurel leaf, bitter almond, licorice and camphor ash. In the mouth it is effervescent, and my notes say “holy electric blackberries” with additional flavors of baked apple pie. The alcohol content is contained at just 5% percent.
