Please join us on Friday, April 5th as we kick off our month-long incredible celebration of our 70th year Anniversary. And what a culinary journey it has been indeed. From Chez François in 1954 downtown next to the White House to the rolling countryside of Great Falls in 1976, my parents, François and Marie Antoinette were indeed pioneers in the business.
Our 70th month long celebration begins today with cuisine featuring the popular classics directly from Papa’s Chez François downtown opening 1954 menu. Alsace has produced one of the world’s richest and most varied cuisines, and today’s menu will highlight several.
An anecdote about Papa Haeringer:
In the early 50’s, most of our customers had not adopted the European tradition of drinking wine with dinner. A patron might tell the waitress, “the girls will have Cokes and the boys will have coffee”. To encourage people to order wine with their meals, Papa ordered table tents announcing a recommendation of particular wines. The table tents bore Papa’s profile. People began to doodle on these profiles, and so he established a monthly contest for the most amusing caricature. To this day, seventy years later, we still honor this tradition of Papa’s, complete with a monthly prize of a generous gift card.
And, PS…there WILL be French wine today paired by our sommeliers as Papa would definitely have it no other way!
